Why should I charge my EV at home?

23 March 2022

With the increase of sales in Electric and Hybrid vehicles over recent years and the Government’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions, there has never been a better time to go electric. Now, with charging points available to install at home, there has never been an easier time either.

Although the costs to own an electric car are often higher compared to diesel or petrol cars, electric vehicles are, in fact, cheaper to run and maintain. You can recharge your car at home in garage or driveways during off-peak times like overnight, which will result in the greatest cost savings.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV)’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme covers up to 75% of the costs of installing a home chargePoint, up to a limit of £350. If you choose to install a chargepoint at home, we can take away all the hassle and stress by applying for the grant on your behalf. For full eligibility criteria contact our team here.

While you can use a three-pin socket, it is much slower to charge your EV compared to using a dedicated charging point, hence why the most convenient and comfortable option is to install a chargepoint.

In this blog, we’ve rounded up the key reasons why installing a home charging unit can make your life easier:

1. Safe and convenient charging

Long gone are the days of having to source an available charging point at a petrol station and paying costly prices to charge your vehicle, now you can simply charge your car at home when it’s convenient to you.

Simply plug in your car to your WallPod: EV charging point, like you would a phone or laptop, and you’ll be ready to go.

2. Quick management

All of our WallPod: EV charging unit come with tracking software and powerful charging apps, giving you complete control.

Whether you’re sat on the sofa or on the other side of the world, the system features with the WallPod ensure you can start and stop charging with the flick of a switch whilst also allowing you to view the charging status of your vehicle and the charging analytics too: helping you save even more.

3. Save money

Through the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), the UK Government offers a grant helping with the costs towards buying and installing a WallPod at home. The EVHS grant covers up to 75% of the cost, capped to a maximum of £350.

Your WallPod: EV smart home charger will also have a three-year warranty guarantee included for free. The only money that you will pay is the net amount of the charging point and installation, with the grant taken off.

To qualify for the grant, you need to have a dedicated off-street parking, your plug-in vehicle has to be purchased after 1st October 2016, as well as make sure you won’t exceed the limit of two OLEV funded chargepoints per household.
