The Workplace Charging Scheme is a government-backed initiative that provides financial support towards the cost of purchasing and installing EV charge points at eligible business premises.
From 1 April 2026, the grant covers up to £500 per socket, up from the previous rate of £350, and businesses can apply for up to 40 sockets across all of their sites.
If you apply for fewer than 40 sockets initially, you can submit additional applications in the future until you reach that limit.
There is no need to reapply to access the higher £500 rate. Any installation completed from 1 April 2026 automatically qualifies for the updated amount.
To qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme, your organisation needs to meet the following criteria:
You are a registered business, charity or public sector organisation or have received – or have currently pending at the time of application – less than €200,000 of public support in the last 3 financial years (meaning the previous 2 financial years plus the current financial year) and satisfy the state aid requirements for de minimis aid
Your business has dedicated sufficient off-street parking
You are located in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
You own the property or have consent from the landlord for chargePoints to be installed at all the sites
You can demonstrate a need for EV charging equipment, or an intent to encourage uptake among your staff and/or fleet
