Behind every great service is a great story, and here at EV Installed, we are incredibly proud to be part of one. Our parent company, Stockport Electrical Services (SES), recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and what a journey it has been.
To mark the occasion, we brought together some of the business’s most valued customers and suppliers for an evening of good food, good drink, and a look back at the road that brought everyone to where they are today.
We thought it was only right to share some of that story with you.
From One Man and a Van to a Growing Team
It all began around 2002, with founder Matt working on his own. It did not take long before he realised he needed support and rather than simply hiring in help, he chose to invest in the next generation. Taking on an apprentice felt like the right thing to do, a nod to those who had taken the time to teach him his trade. That first apprentice, also called Matt (known to the team as JB), set the tone for a culture of mentorship that has run through the business ever since.
By 2005, Tez had joined the team, having trained part-time alongside the business. A year later, a Sunday league football match introduced Matt to a young Danny Ashworth, who was keen to follow the same path as an apprentice electrician.
Building Relationships That Last
From 2007 onwards, SES began to build the kind of industry relationships that underpin a truly sustainable business.
In 2011, Stockport Electrical Services Ltd was formally incorporated, marking a significant milestone and opening the door to larger contracts and new opportunities.
The Birth of EV Charging Company
By 2017, the rise of electric vehicles on UK roads was impossible to ignore. Recognising the opportunity early, SES launched its dedicated EV charging division, which you know today as EV Charging Company. It was a bold move at the time, but one that has proven to be exactly the right call.
We have continued to raise the bar ever since.
In 2024 we became a Rolec Platinum Installer, partnering with one of the biggest names in the EV charging industry. It is a status we are genuinely proud of, and one that reflects the high standards our team holds itself to on every single job.
The Team Behind the Work
A business is only ever as good as the people in it. Alongside a dedicated team of electricians, SES has grown its in-house admin function with the support of Charlene (Admin & Compliance), Hannah (Operations Admin), Nicola (Accounts Admin), and Rachael (Company Accountant). Together, they keep the operation running smoothly behind the scenes.
The anniversary event also gave Matt the chance to pay tribute to Tez, who has been with the business for 20 years. In Matt’s own words, his eye for detail is second to none and he treats every job as if it were on his own property.
Tez has also been a guiding hand to a long list of apprentices who have gone on to build bright careers in the industry. A well-deserved recognition on the night.
Looking Ahead
Fifteen years in, the ambition has not dimmed. SES is investing in Joblogic, a field service management platform, which is due to go live imminently. For our customers, that means faster response times, better communication, greater transparency, and more reliable service delivery. For suppliers, it means smoother purchasing workflows, reduced admin errors, better forecasting, and fewer queries.
We are always looking for ways to improve, not because we have to, but because we genuinely care about the service we deliver. That attitude has been there from day one, and it is not going anywhere.
